Bubba Sparxxx goes indie with Koch Records

Bubba Sparxxx has just signed a new deal to release his fourth album with indie label Koch Records. He was previously signed on Big Boi’s label Purple Ribbon
His first album Dark Days, Bright Nights put him in the game and went gold. But we didn’t heard from Bubba since his last album called The Charm released in 2006 and it’s single Ms. New Booty.
“Bubba Sparxxx is the rapper’s rapper. He continually surprises his fans with his diversity and comes out with hit after hit. We’re thrilled to be working with him,” Alan Grunblatt, General Manager of KOCH Records, said.
The rapper is currently in the studio working on material for the release of a mixtape and a full-length album due out this summer.

Lil Wayne arrested in Arizona

Yeah, he did it again. Lil Wayne has been arrested near Yuma, Arizona last night on three felony counts, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia according to TMZ.
Weezy was arrested in Idaho last year for felony possession of drugs.
The arrest was conducted by the DEA after Weezy tour bus went through a US Border Patrol checkpoint. The Cash Money rapper is currently in the custody of the Yuma County Sheriff’s Department.
Lil Wayne was previously arrested in Idaho last year for felony possession of drugs.

Alicia Keys and Mary J.Blige run the charts

Alicia Keys As I Am is still #3 after 6 weeks on the charts doing a huge 62% sales jump this week by selling 474,000 copies. Ms Keys has sold an overall astonishing 2,350,000 units. You can compare this to the 1,848,500 discs Kanye has sold after 15 weeks on the charts with his Graduation album.
Entering the charts as #2 this week with her album entitled Growing Pains, Mary J. Blige follows Alicia footsteps with 629,000 copies sold for her first week.
As for rappers, Jaheim is #11 as he moved 176,000 units of his new effort The Makings of a Man while Lupe Fiasco The Cool claims the #15 spot with 143,000 fans copping his acclaimed album.
Back with Luda and DTP, Chingy debuted at #84 with his new album Hate It or Love It moving only 31,450 units.

Big Boi will drop a new single on New Year’s Eve

Big Boi is preparing the release of his upcoming album entitled Sir Luscious Left Foot.
Big Boi said that fans can expect to hear his first single at midnight on New Year’s Eve: “I want all the stuff to be ‘08, everything to be brand new. I’m going to put 12 songs on [Sir Luscious Left Foot], I’m finished with like nine right now. Production is by Organized Noize.”
Andre 3000’s own new cd will also be released and these albums will be followed by a new Outkast album.

Hip Hop Charts : Platinum for Alicia Keys

After selling more than 742 000 copies of her new album As I Am on the first week Alicia Keys has now hit the Platinum mark according to Nielsen’s SoundScan. The R&B star pushed another 348,500 copies for a total of 1,092,200 units sold.
Chris Brown is up to No. 9 this week with 120,800 more fans copping his new album Exclusive. After three weeks, his album is now certified Gold with 525 400 copies sold with the help from various guests including The Game, Big Boi, Lil’ Wayne, Kanye West and T-Pain.
Jay-Z is down to No. 14 selling 86,500 additional units of his concept album American Gangster with a total of 643K.
Beyonce is way up to No. 19 bagging 73,300 more copies sold of B’Day (Total 2,983,300) thanks to her recent performance at the American Music Awards. And Fergie is still The Dutchess with her solo album up to No. 26 this week as she sells 56,300 copies for a total of 2,987,200 albums sold.
Elsewhere we find Soulja Boy at No. 32 bagging 44,200 more copies of Souljaboytellem.com for a total of 381,200. Kanye West is No. 39 on the Charts this week moving 39,400 copies of Graduation (Total 1,714,000).
Freeway debuted at No. 42 this week with 36,000 copies of his album Free At Last sold. The album features appearaces by Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross and Scarface, among others.

- Longtime Friend of Fabolous stabbed to death in NY Club : 25 years old Shamel McKinney, was stabbed to death on Friday (November 23) while partying at the Manhattan nightclub “Duvet”.

Alicia Keys takes the charts by storm selling 742K

Alicia Keys enters The Billboard 200 at No 1 this week with her new album As I Am selling an impressive 742,000 copies during it’s first week in stores.
Congrats to her, this is the best sales week for a solo female artist since Norah Jones Feels Like Home that shifted 1 million copies back in 2004.This is also the second best first week sales for 2007 just behind Kanye West’s Graduation which sold over 930,000 copies in its first week.
Jay-Z is still America’s favorite rapper as he bags 131K more units sold of American Gangster this week but slips from #1 to #8 on the charts.
Chris Brown also slips from #4 to #10 selling 110K copies of his new album entitled Exclusive.
The Boyz II Men are back on the charts with their tribute album entitled Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA entering at #27 with 42,000 copies sold this week.

Jigga will release this acappella version of his latest album American Gangster on December 4, the same day Stypes P, Ghostface Killa, Wyclef Jean and DJ Drama are dropping.
Get ready to see the DJs go nuts and release their very own interpretation of Jay’z album. Danger Mouse from Gnarls Barkley was among the DJ’s and producers to use the Black Album acappella version for a mashup project entitled The Grey Album with Jigga’s vocals over unauthorized samples from The Beatles.
