What is gallium-nitride? A new semiconductor material, gallium-nitride, has high band gaps, thermal conductivity at high temperatures, radiation resistance and acid resistance. It also exhibits high strength, hardness, and toughness. It is used extensively in the development of early-stage new energy vehicles, rail transit and smart grids, as well as semiconductor lighting and next generation mobile communications. It's the most popular semiconductor material of its generation. The band gap of gallium nutride is larger than the silicon. This means it can be used to withstand greater voltages, and also has better conductivity. Structure of the GaN crystal
This crystal structure can be described as the periodic distribution or ion/molecule of atoms. In theory, the crystal will extend to infinity at space coordinates. This means that periodicity could be converted into translational stability (or translational invariance). Therefore, the whole crystal is generated by periodic repetition of the basic unit called crystal cell, which can contain atoms/ions/molecules/electron groups and is electrically neutral. The hexagonal crystal of the super-stable Wurtzite type GaN crystal is found. GaN cannot be broken down by hot water, cold water, hydrochloric acids, sulfuric acid or cold 40%HF. However, it is stable in cold concentrated alkali.
