is the nitride of ytrium. Yttrium-nitride, a hard ceramic material with a similar structure to zirconium or titanium nitride, is also known as yttrium nitride.
Scandium, lanthanum and ytrium all possess semiconductor properties. Furthermore, the lattice of Yn's nitrides is just 8% more complex than that of gallium-nitride. This means that YN acts as a buffer layer in between GaN and substrate during GaN's crystal growth.
